I thought it might be nice if we have a thread listing cheap or free software. There are lots of good ones out there that I have stumbled upon over the years and recommend so when I think of them I will post them in this thread. I invite others to do the same.
For starters here are a few:
Avast (very good antivirus, lightweight firewall, spy-ware protection, ICQ, etc.)
ProjectWhoIS Toolbar (this is a quick and easy way to research a domain owner)
FileZilla (fast, easy and stable open source FTP client)
Gadwin PrintScreen (a nice and easy way to do screen captures)
IrfanView (Very easy batch processing including file renaming, lightweight too)
Spamfighter (the regular version is free and quite effective)
